Russian cosmonaut Ivan Vagner has photographed the brightest comet in the past seven years from the International Space Station where he is on a mission.
–
Comet Neowise is at the center of a photo published this Saturday July 4 by crew member Ivan Vagner from the International Space Station (ISS).
“During the next revolution, I tried to take a picture a little closer to the comet C / 2020 F3 (Neowise), the most brilliant of the last seven years. Its tail stands out well from space, from the International Space Station, ”wrote M.Vagner on his Twitter page.
The cosmonaut had previously published another photo showing the comet near the Earth’s atmosphere.
Ivan Vagner went into orbit in April on the Russian spacecraft Soyuz MS-16, with the Russian Anatoli Ivanichine and the American Christopher Cassidy.
The crew of the space station currently includes the American astronauts Douglas Hurley and Robert Behnken.
Comet Neowise
Discovered on March 27 by NASA’s Near-Earth Object Wide-field Infrared Survey Explorer (NEOWISE) space telescope, comet C / 2020 F3 (Neowise) saw its brightness increase significantly.
It will be closest to Earth on July 23, at a distance of 0.69 AU, according to the information web portal Futura. On July 3, it passed not far from the Sun.
