The decision comes just weeks before some 76,000 doses of these vaccines – donated by Chile – expire on November 30, which is an urgency on the part of the Ministry of Health to use them and thus prevent them from being wasted.
Salud added that the administration of these vaccines in people over 18 years of age is safe, “taking into account the manufacturer’s instruction, added to the approval of the World Health Organization (WHO) and other international regulatory agencies such as the European Medicines Agency. ”.

The health portfolio also indicated that the vaccine allows to avoid the serious development of the disease and possible deaths, like the other platforms available in the country.
There is, however, much reluctance of the population in applying the vaccines of this platform, something recognized by the head of the EPI, Dr. Héctor Castro, last week. In that sense, the MSP always transmitted the message that all COVID vaccines are safe.

“It is worth mentioning that the Hematology Society has reported that the association of the application of vaccines to people with a history of thrombosis and its collateral effects is not sustained. This relationship is only kept in those who developed thrombocytopenia associated with the use of heparin (anticoagulant), for this reason, its use is guaranteed ”, states the MSP information note.
Salud reported last week that 76,000 AstraZeneca doses expire at the end of the month, another 48,000 in December and 150,000 in January, all from the same platform. In addition, another 100,000 Sputnik V vaccines, corresponding to component II of the platform, expire in December.
