AstraZeneca vaccination is also’visible’… “Be careful over 65”

Ahead of the AstraZeneca vaccination, which will start in earnest from the end of this month, the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety held a second expert advisory meeting, and added’cautions’ that should be used by 18 years of age or older but cautioned against 65 years of age and recommended permission for use.

Although there is no problem with the safety of the vaccine, it is intended to be more cautious about vaccinations over 65 years of age.

The Central Pharmacy Review Committee, the second advisory meeting on AstraZeneca vaccine approval, recognized the safety and effectiveness and concluded that it was appropriate to approve the vaccine.

As recommended by the 1st verification advisory group, it is a method of inoculating twice at intervals of 4 to 12 weeks for those aged 18 or older.

In addition, the same conditions were attached to submit the results of clinical trials currently in progress.

However, the vaccinations for elderly people over 65 years of age have changed slightly.

In the first verification advisory group, the majority of opinions were that “elderly vaccination cannot be excluded,” but the Central Yak-Shim Committee recommended that the vaccine “use precautions” should be “determined carefully”.

There is no problem with safety, but there are not enough clinical data on the effectiveness of vaccination for the elderly, so it is recommended to use it carefully in the field.

“Basically, permission is granted, but until the effect is sufficiently verified, it is adjusted a little more so that it can be used in the medical field more carefully…”

In addition, as the vaccine is made by national vaccination, it was also recommended that the vaccination committee under the Korean Disease Service should discuss the vaccination of the elderly.

The reason experts have turned cautiously seems to be the fact that even with official approval from the European Union, an increasing number of countries such as Finland, Germany and Poland do not recommend vaccination for the elderly.

The Agency for Disease Control and Prevention said that it will finalize the vaccination plan for the elderly through deliberation by the Vaccination Deliberation Committee upon approval from the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety.

Concerns over concerns that the AstraZeneca vaccination, which was due to be given first to the elderly, will be disrupted, experts believe there will be no problem as the UK and the European Union have approved vaccinations for the elderly.

“I think we can start vaccination with enough data available in the UK (when we vaccination) and we already have some evidence of the (elderly) effect. I don’t think it’s a big problem.”

Next week, the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety is planning to hold a final consultation procedure called the’Final Inspection Committee’ to decide whether to finalize the AstraZeneca vaccine.
