Aston Martin F1 Representative “Impressed by Alonso’s accurate communication”[F1-Gate.com]

Aston Martin F1 team principal Mike Clack says he was impressed by Fernando Alonso, who joined the team for the first time at testing in Abu Dhabi.

Fernando Alonso began his preparations for 2023 during F1 post-season testing at Yas Marina, going through the process of Aston Martin’s new crew and team.

“It was very impressive,” commented Mike Clack.

“I was very impressed with the efficient delivery of the message. Always on time.”

“I think he was very friendly and open and transparent both ways. So I’m really happy that the day went well.”

Mike Clack also identified the similarities between the two drivers, as well as differences in how they approached working with Fernando Alonso’s predecessor, four-time F1 world champion Sebastian Vettel.

“There are differences, because we come from different backgrounds,” said Mike Clack.

“One is Latin and one is German. It makes a big difference.”

“But what they have in common is focus, focus on improvement, focus on progress.

“There are some similarities, but there are also some differences.”

Mike Clack closely monitored his future driver’s racing in the second half of the season. As testament to Fernando Alonso’s competitiveness, he said he was impressed by his unwavering driving, citing the frustrating body language he displayed after retiring from seventh place at the Mexican F1 Grand Prix.

“This is an example of dedication and motivation,” said Mike Clack.

“I think it impacts the team to have someone with that kind of passion and will to win.”

“It was clear that last Tuesday everyone was really happy to have this guy in the car. I think he gave the team a new spark to his own passion and will to win.”

Aston Martin Engineering Technical Director Dan Fallows is keen to see how the team can build on the wealth of experience Fernando Alonso has amassed over the years.

“I think we’re very open-minded about where we’re going to grow,” said Dan Fallows.

“I have a background in Red Bull, some in Mercedes and other teams, and obviously Fernando has a very varied experience.”

“We are not arrogant enough to believe that there is a way to stubbornly stick.”

“So if he can bring us experience, we will definitely take him.”
