“Aston Martin DB12: The First Super Tourer in the World with Impressive Dynamics”

The traditional V12 engine has been replaced by a forked eight-cylinder from Mercedes, but the dynamics are still very impressive.

The British car manufacturer Aston Martin presented the DB12 model, which marks the beginning of a new era of sports cars. The novelty should set a new bar in terms of performance, style and luxury, thanks to which, according to the brand, it has earned the designation “the first Super Tourer in the world”. According to the automaker, the Grand designation is simply not enough for the DB12.

At the same time, the car company could not have chosen a better time to start a new era. In 2023, it celebrates 110 years since its founding and 75 years since the creation of the DB model series. At the same time, the design of the new model obviously follows on from its predecessor, the DB11 model.

The most significant changes are visible in the front part. The DB12 model received a new giant mask of traditional shapes, which is flanked by new LED headlights. Also new is the hood, which features a modern Aston Martin emblem. A new splitter is then placed under the bumper.

The car sits on 21-inch wheels as standard, behind which are brake discs with a diameter of 400 mm in front and 360 mm in the rear. At the same time, the wheels are 8 kg lighter than the 20″ discs of the DB11 model and wear Michelit Pilot 5s tires, which, thanks to a special compound, promise to reduce noise in the cabin. Frameless rear-view mirrors or recessed door handles are also worth mentioning.

The cabin underwent a much more significant transformation, which moves more into the 21st century. In front of the driver is a newly designed steering wheel, behind which is a fully digital instrument panel. At the front of the central tunnel is a 10.25″ multimedia system screen with 4G connectivity, support for Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, voice control and wireless updates. At the same time, Aston Martin should be directly behind the development, while previously infotianment was supplied by Mercedes.

In addition to new technical and technological equipment, the cabin also received thinner ventilation outlets, a new gear selector and retained a number of traditional mechanical controls in the cabin. In addition, there are also premium materials, elegant upholstery and rich optional equipment.

Perhaps the most interesting thing is the drive unit, i.e. the 4.0-liter twin-turbocharged V8 engine, which was supplied by the Mercedes car manufacturer. The engine is tuned for a peak output of 500kW and 800Nm of torque, beating even the 5.2-litre V12 engine in the DB11, which offers 470kW and 700Nm of torque.

The Aston Martin DB12 with a V8 engine accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.6 seconds and reaches a maximum speed of up to 325 km/h. The 12-cylinder engine in the DB11 thus excels in acceleration, but lags slightly behind in top speed (334 km/h). Still, it’s pretty easy to see why the DB12 will go with just a V8.

In addition, the new model boasts a revised chassis that is 7 percent stiffer, an electronically controlled limited-slip differential or a redesigned chassis with stiffer stabilizers and new adaptive dampers. The electronic stabilization system and the brake system have also undergone evolution. Optionally, carbon brakes will also be available, which save up to 27 kilograms of weight and offer longer durability.

Finally, let us add that the new Aston Martin DB12 will be launched in the third quarter of this year. In the near future, the premiere of its open version Volante is also planned.
