asthmatics must continue their treatment, according to the French Federation of Allergology

This development comes after alerts from the Ministry of Health on taking certain drugs, such as ibuprophen and certain corticosteroids.

All asthmatics must continue taking their treatment with inhaled corticosteroids: this is the message launched Tuesday, March 18, the French Federation of Allergology. She notes that “the use of inhaled corticosteroids has never been shown to be a serious risk factor” with coronavirus.

This development comes after alerts from the Ministry of Health on taking certain drugs, such as ibuprophen and certain corticosteroids, which may have created a form of confusion in patients. “It is essential for asthmatic patients to continue to treat themselves so that their disease is controlled”, insists the Federation in a press release.

She also points out that “Asthma is not a risk factor for developing more severe forms of Covid-19 leading them to resuscitation, if asthma is well controlled, in particular by inhaled corticosteroids”.

It also recommends, in case of respiratory problems in people who know they are allergic, to “properly assess the nature of the symptoms experienced” because the months of March and April are conducive to the development of rhinitis, conjunctivitis and asthma in allergic patients due to the arrival of tree pollen in the north and south of France. Accompanied by coughing and wheezing, these allergies can be confused with the symptoms of the virus which killed 175 people in France and currently leads 700 patients to intensive care.
