The National 1 is now on hiatus after the first 16 days of the season. The return to the field will only take place on January 8. But for now, let’s take stock of this first part of the season. At the end of these 16 contested days, it is Quevilly Rouen who will spend the holidays in the lead with 31 points on the clock. Authors of a very good first half of the season, Bruno Irles’ Normans have 9 wins and they have impressed in recent weeks with good form and important victories. But we must not relax in the second part of the season because Bastia, 2nd, and the Red Star, 3rd, are on the lookout. Indeed, the Corsicans and the Parisians total 29 points each and they will watch for the slightest misstep of QRM. After having been in the lead for a long time, Bastia finally let go of the ballast in the last matches and QRM took advantage. The Red Star, for its part, keeps the pace and keeps its chances of climbing.
A tight championship
Behind this leading trio, a gap has already widened because Cholet, 4th, has 25 points and four lengths behind Bastia and the Red Star. The Choletais, however, have not said their last word and we will have to be wary of them in the second part of the season. Laval, Concarneau and Créteil, respectively 5th, 6th and 7th also remain in the race for the podium and could be a spoiler for the rest of the championship. Le Mans, Saint-Brieuc and Orléans complete the top 10 of the championship, which is very close.
Because the 11th, Avranches, has the same number of points (20) as Orléans, 10th. Sète and Bourg-en-Bresse, 12th and 13th, total 19 points and should be wary of the red zone which is only three points. The first non-relegation, Bastia-Borgo, has 18 points, one unit ahead of Boulogne, first relegation with 17 points. Villefranche, 16th, has 16 points while the last two in the standings are lagging behind. The promoted Annecy is penultimate with 12 points while SC Lyon, yet overflowing with ambitions at the start of the season, is red lantern with 11 points. Coach Emmanuel Da Costa was fired last Friday after this very complicated first part of the season.
