‘Asocial’ motorcyclists collide on A2 near IJsselstein, several injured Utrecht

A number of motorcyclists collided with each other near the IJsselstein exit on the A2 on Sunday afternoon, after they showed dangerous driving behaviour. The drivers were on their way back from a large meeting at the AC restaurant De Meern.

The police control room received reports on Sunday afternoon about large groups of motorcycles that would display ‘very antisocial and dangerous road behaviour’. They came from a national car and motorcycle meeting at AC in de Meern.

The police decided to pay a visit to the meeting, after which the motorcyclists left in large groups. According to the police, they did this via the A12, to the A2 and eventually to the A27. “This involved overtaking on the left and right, driving at high speeds and driving on the rear wheel,” the police reported on Instagram.

Trauma helicopter

Motorcyclists hit each other near the IJsselstein exit on the A2. “We immediately switched from monitoring to providing assistance. As a result, even the main carriageway of the A2 had to be closed briefly, so that ambulances, a trauma helicopter, Rijkswaterstaat and the recovery company could arrive at the scene.

The motorcycles were heavily damaged and several people were injured. The police are investigating the collision.
