Retired from the circuit after her coronation at the Australian Open in 2022, Ashleigh Barty has since given birth to her first child, a son, named Hayden. Asked about the emotions she could feel as a tennis champion compared to those of being a mother, the 27-year-old Australian did not hesitate for a second.
Barty: “Motherhood is unlike anything I’ve ever experienced. (…) It’s relentless – 24/7 – but it’s so rewarding and, honestly, it’s the best thing I’ve ever done. It’s incomparable with being an athlete. (…) It’s better than any Grand Slam trophy, truly incomparable.
That said, there have been many times throughout my career where I thought training was difficult or that I was having exhausting days, but it goes to a whole new level when you become a mom.”
