Asen Vassilev: The sign with the new head of parliament? A new generation is coming without luggage and injuries (Updated)

“The signal we are giving with the new speaker of parliament is clear – a new generation is coming into politics. A generation that has no ties, I would say, does not even have the baggage of some of the things that have happened over time, does not carry these traumas and is constructive. He wants things to start in a new way, to work together as much as possible, to clean up the country and put it in order, for Bulgaria to become a country where not only the new generation can work, but also whose friends from abroad to want to return “.

This was said by the co-chairman of “We continue the change” Asen Vassilev in the studio of “Panorama” on BNT. He added that it was Nikola Minchev who was the PP’s proposal for head of the National Assembly. “Negotiations for a government are continuing, this is only the first step, the most normal thing is for the first political force to nominate a parliamentary speaker,” he explained.

Vassilev denied having a formula for allocating ministerial seats. “What there is is the understanding that in relation to the number of deputies there will be a corresponding weight in the composition of the Council of Ministers,” Vassilev added. And he declined to confirm whether he himself would be the future finance minister. Vassilev added, however, that this is the proposal of the PP, as well as that of Kiril Petkov as prime minister.

Asen Vassilev explained that currently each party is reviewing sectoral policies, and the political part is to be prepared – how decisions will be made, what will be the structure of the Council of Ministers and others.

“We hope that all political forces will agree at the beginning of next week,” he added. Vassilev reiterated that there could be no final version of the agreement until everyone agrees with it, and that “the evaluation of candidacies is considered behind closed doors”.

Vassilev added that the main tasks for the future government are three: to stop leaks and corruption in a systematic way, not only with personal systems, in order to heal the state; crisis management – energy, health and politics; to raise incomes, to start economic growth, to put the state in order, “so that we enjoy living in it”.

Regarding the 2022 budget proposed by the caretaker government, the PP co-chair said he had not “seen it, but detailed breakdowns need to be considered to see if it can be used as a basis”.

According to him, however, if there is a new structure of the Council of Ministers, the budget should be completely revised.

He described as “unrealistic and unnecessary” the proposal to set a limit of BGN 12 billion in debt for 2022.

Regarding the scandal in the DCC, Vassilev explained that he was not following him and understood that accusations were being exchanged: “Some said so, others – something else. Checks are being carried out. If someone has broken the law, bear the consequences.” Earlier, the other coalition leader described the scandal at the State Consolidation Company as an “insinuation” and executive director Vanya Karaganeva as an “honest man”.

For the COVID crisis, the former caretaker finance minister said the lasting solution was an awareness campaign to help people get vaccinated voluntarily.

Asen Vassilev also spoke about a change in the state administration, and according to him there should be a smooth withdrawal of pensioners from it. “There are key retirees with a lot of knowledge, but they can be retained as experts, as there are parts of the state administration in which 15-20% are retired.” According to him, there should be real public competitions so that everyone who wants can enter and contribute.

“People will start to renew themselves, but this should not be done on a party and Shurobadzhan principle, it should not be done abruptly, but there should be a normal smooth transition to construction,” he added.
