As Chelsea looms, Bayern Munich plan to meet with Niklas Süle this summer

Bayern Munich CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge had a massive interview with ZDF (as captured by Spox) and one of the hot topics he broached was Bayern Munich’s contractual relationship with center-back Niklas Süle .

While Rummenigge was far from making a commitment for Süle, it appears the club are at least considering entering into negotiations early in the summer. If things don’t come to an agreement, however, Bayern Munich will likely have a quick trigger to shoot a sale from the big man.

The Bavarians are clearly looking to avoid another situation as they experienced with David Alaba and Jerome Boateng, where they will likely lose both players and generate no income in return.

“We want the good German national players from FC Bayern,” said Rummenigge. “Niklas still has a year of contract. We’ll chat and see where they lead. We will take it seriously and calmly until the summer. Corona also caused financial damage to FC Bayern. If we find a solution, we are usually happy to extend the contract, but this will only be possible under certain conditions.

Of course, you can interpret this as you see fit. The Daily Mail has decided that Bayern Munich will only extend Süle if they can “find a solution to their financial difficulties”. It seems overkill for an existing player on the roster, but it is possible if Bayern Munich deem Süle’s salary demands too high.

If Bayern Munich want Süle and Süle want the financial package offered by the Bavarians, then things should work out. If either of those two factors don’t match, however, we could see the 25-year exit.

At one point, it was almost inconceivable that Bayern Munich would part ways with such a young and talented German defender. With the recent signing of Dayot Upamecano, however, Süle’s future with the club seems uncertain at best.

Süle has struggled to recover from a devastating knee injury he sustained last season. Whether this will be something to torment him for the rest of his career remains to be seen, but evaluating a player over the year immediately following such an injury is hardly ever a good idea.

Chelsea are said to be among the teams interested in Süle.
