Aryna Sabalenka Takes Over as Leader of WTA Rankings, Ending Iga Świątek’s Reign

75 weeks – that’s how long Iga Świątek’s reign in the WTA ranking lasted. It had been known for several days that she would not be able to maintain her leading position after the US Open, and on Monday the latest official update appeared. The Pole dropped to second place, and Aryna Sabalenka became the new leader. This is what the latest WTA ranking looks like.

Iga Świątek finished her participation in the US Open in the fourth round. She lost after a three-set fight against Jelena Ostapenko, which meant that she would not defend the title she won last year. This failure had another serious consequence. It was known that after the competition at Flushing Meadows, the Pole would no longer be the leader of the WTA ranking.
