Heatwave is causing concern in Texas before Haaland’s debut – VG

In the USA: Erling Braut Haaland is at training camp with new teammates in Houston, Texas.

HOUSTON (VG) Erling Braut Haaland (21) has been greeted by around 40 degrees at his first training camp with Manchester City in the USA. Night to Thursday, the Norwegian can debut in a scorching, VGTV-broadcast showdown against Club América.

– This summer will be one of the warmest ever measured, and it may be the warmest ever measured, says Travis Herzog to VG.

The American is chief meteorologist for ABC13 Houston. Last week, the light went on on live TV when the power grid was overloaded as Herzog presented the weather to the inhabitants of the United States’ fourth largest city. It happened not just once, but twice in the same day.

The clip, which you can see here, has later received a lot of attention.

– It was a comical moment. The first time I did not understand what was happening, or if we were still on TV, but the second time I knew I was live, and I decided to joke a little with it. It’s funny that the video has gone around the world, but hopefully we can keep the lights on for the rest of the summer, says Herzog.

– Does Houston have a problem?

– Houston can handle the heat, but the power grid in Texas can have a problem. That is our major concern right now. We are constantly seeing that the strain on the power grid is at a record high, and warnings are being given that use must be reduced. At the same time, we still have the warmest month of the year ahead of us, says the chief meteorologist.

According to ERCOT, which monitors the load on the power grid in Texas, there is a danger of power outages for the state’s 30 million inhabitants.

COOLING DOWN: Erling Haaland, Jack Grealish and Oleksandr Zintchenko use ice baths after training in Houston.

In parallel, Haaland and the rest of the English league champion’s star gallery train at Houston Sports Park. The stay in the oil city is part of the training camp in the USA, which also consists of a match against German Bayern Munich in Green Bay, Wisconsin, night to Sunday Norwegian time.

Before the training sessions in Houston, the City players have completed strength exercises and partially warmed up in a cooled hall, while the sweat has cleaned them out on the grass during the sessions.

– Wow! It’s hot, exclaimed new signing Kalvin Phillips (26) when he came out in the sun here in Houston before the first training session.

– Oh, my God. It’s like coming to a sauna, commented the Algerian star player Riyad Mahrez (31) in a clip from Manchester City’s media department.

“Oh my good gosh.” repeated right back Kyle Walker (32) several times when he was greeted by the heat.

The temperature in Houston has been kept for 133 years – since 1889. This year’s May is the second warmest month in the city’s history, while June was the warmest ever. Recently, a record was also set for the highest temperature in July. The weather worries the US chief meteorologist for ABC13. For the traditionally warmest month, August, is still waiting.

– I really hope that this pattern changes, says Herzog, but so far there is little to suggest it.

Manchester City meets Mexican Club América on Wednesday at 18.30 local time. Even then, it is expected around 40 degrees in the sun. The settlement is broadcast live on VG +, with kick-off at 02.30 Norwegian time.

The vast majority of City training on the US tour is closed to the public, but video images show that coach Pep Guardiola has set up for high intensity despite the exhausting heat. With only two weeks left until the Community Shield match against Liverpool and barely three weeks until the Premier League opening against West Ham, the focus seems to be sharp. Haaland and the other players, such as the Oslo boy Oscar Bobb (19) who has been picked up from the academy for the occasion, appear concentrated and hard-working.
