Thrissur Writer Arundhati Roy says India is becoming a country where poor people are killed and women are raped on the streets. She was speaking after receiving the Navamalayali Cultural Award. Manipur is not a civil war but ethnic cleansing. The Prime Minister is tweeting that he ate bread for dinner the night before when that country was burning. Apart from Manipur, a section of people are also killed in Haryana and soon riots will spread to other states one by one. When the country burns, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is nowhere in the picture. They said that the Prime Minister is keeping silent instead of standing up for the people. It is a fact that the people of Kerala do not get the same security in other states. It is still unclear what is happening in Manipur, where people are constantly being hunted down by cutting off internet and other means of communication. Kerala, which is ahead in terms of political awareness and intellectual development, has more tasks to do. They also said that Kerala should be able to deliver aid to Manipur. Hindutva extremists are firing at Muslims shouting Jai for Modi in the train. Their attitude is that if you are a Muslim, you should be killed and if you are a woman, you should be tortured. The country is going through a situation where it has to bow its head before the world. Arundhati Roy added that the country should stand united and fight against this. The award consisting of one lakh rupees and a citation was awarded to Dr. Presented to J Devika Arundhati Roy. Arundhathiroy said that the award amount will be transferred to a trust working for social change. Poet PN Gopikrishnan presided.
