‘Art saved my life’

He has the ability to approach the great dramas of life with the emotional purity of a song by León y Quiroga or with the apparent simplicity of the symbolism of a poem by Lorca. And she comes naturally. She talks like that. Of the death of a mother, of his salvation through theatre, love, heartbreak… It’s not uncommon for him to sing. But music with soul. with complaint Flemish, soul, bossa… How could he not do it, if at the age of nine he saw Lola Flores and was ‘astonished’. How will the thing that loves her have always called her Pharaoh. Indigo, her boy, that’s how she has it on her mobile. He is a musician and with him, Belén López ‘threw into the mountains’, sorry, ‘to the orange tree’, the one of cante. This Christmas in fact, with his golden chairreinvented the concept of the Christmas carol, impregnated as it was with the smell of jasmine and mint. And yes, it was a success.

But, What came before, the actress or the singer? “That’s like asking which came first, the chicken or the egg. That my mother took me to the theater as a child to see Lola, that, boy, leaves a mark on you. And then, the family gatherings, which were always a good excuse for singing and dancing… And that my mother loved the cinema. She was a huge cinephile. And artist. That she was a hairdresser … I inherited her art ”. Also the hairdresser’s, which she keeps open, in Seville. Bel and Co. And that not only has a sentimental value in his life, but also metaphorical and almost substantial. Because in order for the indecisive Belén to learn her trade, she did her courses in hairstyle in London and Paris and, there, between scissors and dryers, there was also time for musicals in the West End and La Comédie Française, until ‘La López’ knew she wanted to be an artist. The strange thing is that he would have left to notify, obviously.

“Because mine has always been a necessity. I interpret and sing because it is the way to express myself”. And also because, very young, he was not even 20 years old, art “saved the life. I was that lucky”. Because his parents died and, paradoxically, he had the immense fortune of, given that life had given him that setback, knowing how to turn it around and, as popular wisdom says, “get milk from a flask.” “I had to face that tragedy very soon, but I took my pain to use it as a spring. To grow. To evolve. Because… I am a good thinker. To think pretty. I was going to do? Install myself in sorrow? Surely it would not have been the same if my parents had continued living life… Everything would have been different… But I have the gift of seeing the glass half full and, so young, I thought I was lucky because I was not going to see to my parents getting old, who always, in my thought, would be young”.

That positivity permeates everything he does. “I enjoy life and I don’t want to miss anything”, he emphasizes. But so much so that this becomes a double-edged sword when not infrequently he has to face tough, tragic characters, with a rich inner world but emotionally dry on the outside. “Do you know how I think about it? In me is to be the most unfortunate woman in the world or the happiest. It depends on me. And I choose to be happy. I self-manage so that it is so.” And good attracts good things, of course. “It’s like a boomerang. The universe is ready for whatever you want to send it.”. That and that there are thousands of women who accompany her. thousand women It has been the theme that, without intending it, has become a hymn by and for women. However, there are two of them to whom she brings her success: her mother and Lola Flores. “They hear me from heaven.”
