As the “Tourist Guide” told me Kaunas The region’s tourism information specialists, Nemuno7, were produced as far back as 1965 in what was then Czechoslovakia, and were once used to deepen the Nemunas River. When a piece of machinery is found to be obsolete and environmentally unfriendly, it is abandoned and neglected for a while.
Instead of scraping “Nemuno7”, it has been transformed into a sightseeing venue – a cultural site that is unique and can only be found here in the village of Zapiškis. The dredger has been open to the general public in its current form since 22 May 2022 and, as the authors of the idea point out, calls for reflection on the subject of water from an artistic, historical and scientific perspective.
There are currently 46 unique plants and nine contemporary works of art on the floating platform. Everything on board the dredge was created by Lithuanians themselves – from the idea to plant selection and audiovisual installations. The project has been implemented within the framework of the “Kaunas 2022” program, which means that Nemuno7 is currently saturated with an extensive cultural program.
The dredger is open to visitors on weekdays from 4 pm to 10 pm, and on weekends from 12 noon to 8 pm Entrance ticket price: from three and a half to seven euros.
