Arson attack in Munich: Shortly before the G7 summit, eight police cars went up in flames. They were parked in front of the hotel that will house the rally crew.

Several team buses of the federal riot police were allegedly set on fire early Wednesday morning. The emergency services for the G7 summit live in the hotel in front of which the cars burned, as a spokesman for the Munich police told the German Press Agency. Investigators suspected arson.

The police briefly searched for possible perpetrators with a helicopter, among other things, but were initially unsuccessful, as the spokesman said.

Investigators examined the completely burned-out squad car in the morning. The officials estimated the damage in the six-digit range. Nobody got hurt. In the run-up to the meeting, resistance is apparently also forming in Elmau: power boxes there have recently been dangerously manipulated, and several protests have been announced for the next few days.
