Arsenal fans were left baffled after not receiving a “stone wall penalty” in the first 20 seconds of the Premier League clash with Wolves.

The Gunners secured a last-gasp 2-1 win at the Emirates on Thursday, thanks to a spectacular goal from Alexandre Lacazette in added time.

Mikel Arteta’s team had to come back from a goal down for much of the game, but was unlucky not to receive a penalty in the minute of the game.

The shout came after Bukayo Saka passed the ball to Gabriel Martinelli inside the penalty area in the first attack of the match.

Martinelli positioned himself to hit the ball, but was hit by Wolves right back Nelson Semedo, who appeared to run towards the Brazilian without making contact with the ball.

Referee Martin Atkinson did not detect the incident, which was later reviewed by VAR without success.

And the decision angered Arsenal fans who took to social media to protest the lack of punishment for Semedo’s challenge.

One fan wrote on Twitter: “Some of the penalties Arsenal don’t take, I think you can see why.

“But, unless there’s an angle from the other side that shows Semedo didn’t just hit Martinelli’s arm, I can’t see how you don’t give him this.

Another tweeted: “Somehow Arsenal don’t get a penalty after Semedo takes out Martinelli.”

Wolves could have scored a goal themselves early on, but the linesman ruled their attack offside.

Alexandre Lacazette’s goal forced a late own goal to win the match against Arsenal

Finally, the visiting team’s pressure paid off when Hwang Hee-Chan pounced on a Gabriel error from the back to put the ball in from a tight angle.

The Gunners dominated possession from then on and appeared to be headed for an unfortunate defeat until substitute Nicolás Pepe finished off masterfully in the 82nd minute.

With five minutes of added time played, Frenchman Lacazette had one last chance that goalkeeper José Sá inadvertently put into the net.
