Arrest Made in Nîmes Drug Trafficking Case Following Significant Seizure

Nîmes police officers arrested on Tuesday evening a man suspected of drug trafficking uncovered on September 3 in the Place Corot area.

Nîmes police officers arrested on Tuesday evening a man suspected of drug trafficking which dates back to a significant seizure of cannabis resin and money on September 3 in an apartment on Place Corot. The affair would have started with a CRS patrol in the Pissevin district. Bags intended to package cannabis were reportedly found in the area leading investigators to call in a dog specialized in the search for narcotics. On site, the dog would have marked the premises in several places allowing investigators from the Nîmes police station to go upstairs and target an apartment in which there were retirees.

A man aged around 80 reportedly attended the search leading to the discovery of a room, apparently his son’s, in which there was a small fridge in which around 11 kg of cannabis resin were stored. A search of the apartment reportedly revealed nearly 1.6 kg of herbal cannabis and 36,000 euros in cash. Since this seizure, Gard Departmental Security investigators have stepped up their investigative actions and launched research to identify the occupant of the room where the drugs and money were found.

This Tuesday, September 19, a crew of public security police officers located a man in a car matching the description of the suspect, it would be a man in his thirties. He was immediately taken into custody at the police station to explain this seizure. Investigations are ongoing and police custody can last 96 hours in drug matters. The Nîmes prosecutor’s office confirmed this Thursday the arrest of the suspect.
