Army intelligence sent to ISI, interrogation of arrested soldier and drug smuggler continues

Patiala. Patiala Police of Punjab on Wednesday arrested a soldier on charges of giving intelligence information about the Indian Army to Pakistani agency ISI. The information about this soldier Manpreet Sharma (27) was given by a high-profile drug smuggler Amrik Singh who was already in jail. The police had brought Amrik Singh on a production warrant, but now they have obtained 5-day remand of both of them so that they can be interrogated.

Police revealed that the accused soldier has confessed to giving information to ISI about five times in the last few years. However, further investigation may reveal the collusion of some other people also. Police along with Indian Army and IB are investigating the case. A case was also registered under the Official Secrets Act against both the accused, who were produced in the local court on Wednesday.

Army information CD sent to Pakistan
SSP Varun Sharma told that Manpreet Sharma of Balvehra village of Patiala district is a soldier in the Indian Army who was posted in Pathankot and Chandimandir headquarters. Manpreet had somehow gained access to the computers of the Indian Army and stored sensitive information in a CD. He had handed over this information to drug smuggler Amrik Singh. After this, Amrik sent this CD to ISI. Apart from giving money to soldier Manpreet, America also provided some other benefits.

SSP Varun Sharma said that Manpreet’s name had come up during the interrogation of drug smuggler Amrik Singh. After this we carried out inter-agency coordination and immediately contacted the Military Intelligence Agency and IB for further investigation. Now further investigation is going on as to how Manpreet got access to the sensitive data of the Indian Army and to whom did he give the information in Pakistan. During interrogation, Manpreet confessed that he had provided confidential information of the Indian Army to drug smuggler Amrik Singh about five times.

SSP Varun Sharma told that Manpreet had joined the Indian Army as a driver in 2016. Now information is being collected from every place where he is posted. Both Manpreet and Amrik met through a person Jagdeep, but Jagdeep had no role in what happened later. Regarding Amrik Singh, it has also come to light that he had relations with terrorist Harvinder Singh Rinda.
