Armenia and Kazakhstan banks block critical electronics payments from Russia amid US sanctions

The banks of Armenia and Kazakhstan, thanks to which Russia circumvented the sanctions, began to block payments for the supply of critical electronics for legal entities from the Russian Federation.

The visits of American officials to the republics of the former USSR were not in vain: Armenia and Kazakhstan, which became the largest hubs for parallel imports to the Russian Federation, began to block payments from Russian importers, reports “businessmanciting sources familiar with the situation.

According to one of the interlocutors, this is due to the 10th package of sanctions imposed by Washington.

After US Deputy Secretary of the Treasury Elizabeth Rosenberg visited Astana and threatened sanctions for helping Moscow, banks tightened compliance procedures and all payments from Russia are now “manually checked,” a Kommersant source says.

The banks of Armenia and Hong Kong are acting in a similar way and they see the problem at the level of the Russian government: the blocking of payments occurs in the supply of the latest generation of telecom equipment, data storage systems and servers, admits a Kommersant source close to the Russian government.

According to Russian logisticians, Moscow can no longer purchase critical electronics and components directly after the start of the war. However, access is now being lost through third countries as well. Within the next 12 months, Russia may face a serious shortage of sanctioned goods.

Last year, Armenia, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan increased imports of goods from the EU and the US by $9.7 billion, or 66%. Of this volume, half went through the channels of parallel imports to the Russian Federation – $ 4.8 billion.

For example, the supply of integrated circuits from the US and the EU to Armenia jumped 16 times, to $8.5 million. And their export from Armenia to Russia increased by 6500 times – $13 million.

Meanwhile, Russian banks do not allow payments to Iranian companies because they are on their “black lists”.
