The death toll from corona infection in the Italian region of Lombardy, the country’s biggest hotspot of the dreaded lung virus, is approaching 1,000. Regional Health Minister Giulio Gallera said on Saturday that 966 people have now died from Covid-19 disease, an increase from 76. The number of infection cases rose by 1865 to 11,685.
The total number of deaths in Italy will be announced later today. On Friday, the counter was at 1266.
