Arie Boomsma responds to NSB ruling Fidan Ekiz in Op1

Arie Boomsma commented on the statements made by Fidan Ekiz on Sunday evening On 1. She involved the presenter in the VI riot by accusing him of ‘NSB behavior’. Arie Boomsma thinks this is ‘very unfortunate’, he says NU.nl know.

Ekiz was referring to a recent Instagram post by Arie Boomsma. In this he would tip advertisers to stop WE. Boomsma cannot understand that Ekiz reacts to this with a reproach of ‘NSB behavior’.

“It is very unfortunate that someone as a journalist in an official program takes over things without the facts,” he says. “I find that difficult to see.”

Misunderstood

In the interview with NU.nl Boomsma emphasizes that Ekiz has misunderstood his message. “All I have done is ask: don’t you as an advertiser or viewer or broadcaster ask yourself if you want to be a platform for discrimination against minorities? That’s a very relevant question, but it’s a question,” he explains. from. “That’s what it’s about. I’ve put it now and then it’s done.”

He hopes that attention will soon shift back to the racism debate. “How should we deal with racism? Would you like to offer a podium there? Where is the responsibility? Those are relevant questions.”

Responsible

Boomsma does not intend to leave it at that. “I feel responsible to stand up because if people don’t stand up to racism, nothing will ever happen.” Whether this also immediately means the end of the VI riot, we have to see.

It usually takes little effort for me not to respond to columns and comments in which I am discussed. Some people think I’m stupid, other people like me. It does not matter. You can find what you want, and fortunately you can also say what you want in this country. You can shout racist things. But why would you want to? You may even, if the muses let you down, make a well-worn comparison with the wartime in a debate about current events. Call me an NSB man and other people who open their mouths when someone shouts racist things. That is allowed. You may miss the irony in that comment. A white, right-wing part of society that struggles with minorities because of skin color or orientation. White people throwing themselves around with terms like ‘virtue’ and the German ‘Gutmensch’. The irony is that with such a troll army you silence anyone who thinks differently from you. Then hoping together that people with an uneasy opinion will now remain silent for fear of being discussed, flooded with anger that in most cases actually comes from somewhere else. And it must be said; keeping silent saves a lot of anxiety and a lot of negative energy. But you know, if everyone is silent for fear of noticing, nothing ever changes. We can still mention that particular period in our history, when it was also kept silent while minorities passed by, but that is too easy. So let me not do that for a while. And yet respond today. Easy is usually not the right way.
