Argentina exceeded 100,000 cases of the Coronavirus on Sunday in light of efforts to contain the increasing spread of the epidemic, despite the imposition of strict quarantine in the capital, Buenos Aires and the surrounding areas.

The Ministry of Health stated that it had recorded 2,657 new confirmed cases of the virus within 24 hours, bringing the total to 100,166 cases.

The South American country imposed a strict quarantine in mid-March to stop the spread of the virus, and eased restrictions slightly during May, but re-applied them in late June in the capital and surrounding areas due to the high number of infections.

The number of deaths in Argentina reached 1845, a big difference from Brazil, which witnessed more than 71 thousand deaths as of Sunday, and Peru, which recorded 11,682.

However, the number of injuries did not exceed a thousand until the beginning of June, and it recorded at least three thousand per day during the last four days.
