The six-fold Golden Ball became the most capped player in the history of the Argentine selection last night in Brazil, during the victory over Bolivia.
Argentina crushed Bolivia 4-1 on the last day of the group stage of the Copa America football, thanks to a brace from Lionel Messi, who at the same time became Argentina’s most selected player – 148 capes, ahead of Javier Mascherano – for his country, Monday in Cuiaba (Brazil). Messi converted a penalty in the 33rd minute, whistled for a Diego Berenjano foul on “Papu Gomez”, then scored his 75th national goal in the 42nd minute, further increasing his lead at the top of Argentina’s scorers.
Alejandro “Papu” Gomez had previously opened the scoring for Argentina in the 6th and it was Lautaro Martínez who closed the scoring in the 65th. Erwin Saavedra reduced the score for Bolivia in the 60th.

In the other Group A match, Uruguay defeated Paraguay 1-0 with a penalty converted by former Parisian Edinson Cavani in the 20th minute, and will face Colombia in the quarter-finals. Messi’s Argentina, who finished at the top of this group A, will face Ecuador for a place in the last four. The other quarterback posters? Neymar and Marquinhos’ Brazil will have to challenge Chile, while Peru will face Paraguay.
