57% of French people now take into account the possibility of having an office when choosing accommodation

(Boursier.com) – After a year marked by successive periods of confinement and curfew, Liberkeys, a new real estate agency, unveils an unprecedented study, carried out in partnership with Poll & Roll, on travel time that the French are now ready to devote between their home and their workplace to gain in quality of life.

While in 2018, they spent an average of 1 hour and 22 minutes per day, all transport included between their work and their home, are they ready to extend this time, given the generalization of teleworking, to gain in quality of life?

While at the end of the 1st confinement, multiple surveys and polls revealed a strong desire of the French to leave the big cities to live in larger housing or closer to nature, the generalization of teleworking which continues to this day has nonetheless lessened this desire. Indeed, the relationship of the French vis-à-vis their work has been deeply shaken. From now on, the professional framework has taken its marks in the private sphere encouraging some to rethink their quality of life

Better quality which notably involves moving the French away from their workplace and which is motivated by 3 main reasons, revealed in the framework of this unprecedented study:
1. Have a larger home (37%)
2. Have an outdoor space or a larger space (36%)
3. Pay less for your accommodation (32%)

To do this, 51% say they are ready to extend their travel time by 30 minutes to their place of work and 21% to add up to 1 hour or more!

The sustainability of teleworking as a condition for extending travel time

A distance that will be conditioned by the possibility, in the long term, of teleworking … Indeed, the study reveals that nearly 1/4 of French people say they need 1 or 2 days of telework per week for their work. ” move away from their place of work and more than 1/4 of them between 3 and 5 days of teleworking. Figures that may vary depending on the region …

If in the South and the North-East this figure is relatively stable, in the Paris region, 45% say they need between 3 and 5 days of teleworking to change environment while in the North-West they are 12%.

The possibility of having an office at home: decisive criterion in the choice of accommodation

Unsurprisingly, teleworking has created among the French a need for additional comfort in order to be able to work in good conditions at home. In this sense, this study reveals that for 57% of them, having the possibility of having an office in their property is now a determining criterion in the choice of accommodation. A relatively stable trend in all regions except in the South-West where this figure stands at 67% …
