Are PlayStation 5 defective in Poland? We explain

On Twitter and in other social media you can read rumors about a defective PlayStation 5 batch that went to Poland. The alleged defect should affect the order fulfillment time. We explain how it really is.

On Saturday, November 7, Patryk Fejfer, a Twitter user informed about the fact that the representative of the x-com store called him. The employee informed Patrick about the delay in delivery of the PlayStation 5. The reason was a defective motherboard of the device. A Twitter user shared this news on the web.

Information about a motherboard defect may seem plausible for many reasons. First, when a new console enters the market, we know nothing about its failure rate. History remembers high failure rates, this is nothing extraordinary. It is enough to mention the Xbox 360 and the so-called red ring of death. Secondly, the report of an allegedly defective disc coincided with the report of my colleague Paweł Winiarski – his PlayStation 5 had technical problems.

We now know that the x-kom employee made a mistake by reporting a motherboard defect on the PlayStation 5.

As I learned directly from the spokesperson for the x-kom network, the employee could not know about any defect of the device, because at the time of calling customers, the PS5 consoles were still not in the warehouse of the popular store. The representative of x-kom misinterpreted, perhaps looking for an excuse for the delayed shipment of equipment to the customer. In short: there has been an unfortunate misrepresentation.

We decided to obtain an official position on this matter from the spokesman of x-kom, Kamil Szwarbula. The spokesman asked if it was true that they had received a defective batch of PlayStation 5 consoles, e.g. with a malfunctioning motherboard:

We did not receive a single copy of the PS5, let alone a non-working motherboard. Such a news was spread by one of our contact center advisers, who got it from I don’t know where (…). We will explain the matter in detail on Monday, but now I would like to apologize for the confusion that resulted from our employee’s mistake.

It is true, however, that PlayStation 5 orders on the x-com network have actually been delayed.

Public, but not necessarily widely known information is the fact that the x-kom network is not a direct customer of Sony Interactive Entertainment Polska. SIEP is the official distributor of PlayStation devices on our market on behalf of Sony, with which a significant part of the home electronics network cooperates – for example MediaMarkt. Another part of the sales network has its own supply chains.

One such network is x-com. Unfortunately, this time the popular store is unable to offer PS5 consoles on the day of release, most likely because one of their delivery channels has failed. This does not mean, however, that pre-orders in other RTV household appliances networks are at risk. It seems that those companies that work directly with SIEP will ship their consoles on time.

A spokesman for the x-kom store asked for a comment related to the delay in deliveries of PlayStation 5 consoles:

There will be delays in PS5 delivery at x-com. We will definitely not have them for the premiere, and we do not know when the ordered copies will arrive. We ask our customers to be patient. Of course, we can cancel your order and refund your money at any time. We can also replace PlayStation 5 with a desktop from the G4M3R series with a PLN 500 discount. What we can now offer as an apology is an additional voucher.

People who decide to wait with us for the PS5 or change the order to the G4M3Ra, will receive an additional PLN 100 from us for any purchase in x-com.

Everything should be clear now.

It is still not known how much failure rate the PlayStation 5 will have. But we do know that the console is wonderfully quiet, and the DualSense controller is the best Sony pad ever. If you want to know more details about PS5, please check it out with our very extensive review.
