Los Angeles (USA), Apr 12 (EFE) .- The ArcLight Cinemas and Pacific Theaters in the United States announced their final closure on Monday after more than a year without activity due to the pandemic.

“This was the result that no one wanted but, despite a huge effort that has exhausted all potential options, the company does not have a viable way to move forward,” these chains said in a statement.

ArcLight Cinemas and Pacific Theaters are owned by the Decurion company.

The goodbye of these channels is particularly sad for moviegoers in Los Angeles (USA).

ArcLight Cinemas managed the famous Cinerama Dome, which under its iconic dome on Sunset Boulevard housed one of the best-known and most beloved theaters in the Californian city.

Along with its complex in the heart of Hollywood that included the Cinerama Dome, ArcLight Cinemas also had other facilities in Southern California (USA) in cities such as Santa Monica or Pasadena.

In addition to its programming, which went beyond Hollywood releases and offered independent and international films, the rooms of ArcLight Cinemas used to be a regular meeting point for lovers of the big screen since numerous premieres and colloquia were held there. or events related to cinema.

For its part, Pacific Theaters also had highly visited cinemas such as those located in the popular The Grove shopping center in Los Angeles.

The Los Angeles county wards were closed for more than a year due to the coronavirus and only reopened at the end of last March thanks to the favorable evolution of the pandemic.

Large chains such as AMC or Regal were able to return to activity almost immediately, but smaller companies such as ArcLight Cinemas or Pacific Theaters had more difficulties to reopen.

News of the closure of ArcLight Cinemas and Pacific Theaters caused a stir in the film community on Monday, as director Rian Johnson summed up.

“This is bullshit. Every person who worked at ArcLight Cinemas loved cinema and you felt it,” the director of “Star Wars: Episode VIII – The Last Jedi” (2017) and “Knives Out” (2019) wrote on Twitter.

“I send my love to all the ushers, bosses and projectionists who wore that blue shirt and who made that place so special,” he added. EFE
