April 8 Solar Eclipse in New York: Free and Ticketed Events to Watch

NEW YORK — April’s solar eclipse is sure to be the spectacle of spring.

People in the path of the solar event, or within driving distance, have already begun planning to see it unfold on April 8.

New York is one of the few states that is in the path of totality. Whether you want to watch the eclipse from your neighborhood or in the company of NASA astronauts, there are many exciting ways to see it.

Here’s an up-to-date list of free and ticketed events to watch:

Manhattan

The total solar eclipse will be on October 8 and New York will be able to experience it. Here the details.

Brooklyn

  • Brooklyn Botanic Garden: 1 pm – 5 pm Free admission to view from the garden grass.
  • Cementerio Green Wood: 1:30 pm – 5 pm Special edition glasses and telescopes with solar filters are provided, as well as self-guided tours, installations, community murals and music. Free to register.
  • Shirley Chisholm State Park Hike: 2 pm – 4 pm Walk along the fountain side to the highest point with park educators. Glasses are provided; Confirmation of attendance is required.

Queens

  • New York Science Hall (NYSCI): 1 pm – 5 pm Featuring interactive NASA activities, a DJ, and food vendors from the Queens Night Market. Tickets here.

New York State

  • Rochester – Festival Roc the Eclipse 2024: It takes place from Saturday, April 6 to Monday, April 8. Eclipse day activities include ballet performances, a NASA astronaut talk, and a concert.
  • Syracuse Total park eclipse at historic NBT Bank Stadium: 2:30 pm Free commemorative eclipse glasses.
  • YonkersHudson River Museum: 2 pm – 5 pm Open-door presentation in the planetarium and free eclipse glasses (while supplies last). Weekend workshops and family events include a presentation with NASA astronaut and Yonkers native Ron Garan.
