Appreciation for care is shining in a special broadcast of WAKKER!

The support for healthcare has not been broken. The radio program WAKKER! van Omroep Brabant Monday morning with their special broadcast for healthcare.

Everyone could show their appreciation via Facebook, WhatsApp, an email or a phone call. Producer Daisy Schalkens kept an eye on all these channels and was busy with them.

Grateful
“The reactions came from people who had been in hospital with corona themselves and were grateful for all the help they received. Healthcare workers themselves also complimented their organization and team.”

For example, there was José from the emergency department in the Eindhoven Catharina Hospital. “Now in the second wave we are busy again and the patients keep coming again. The difference with the first wave is that the other wards are more crowded with corona patients than then. But even now we are going for it again.”

So many types of care
When it comes to healthcare workers, many people think of hospital staff first. “This morning various care workers were in the limelight”, says Daisy.

“The district nurse who still has to be creative with protective equipment”, Daisy begins to list. “The disabled carer who continues to explain that cuddling is not possible. The employee in the ward with dementia patients where the virus is again circulating. It’s impressive how many different care employees have to deal with the consequences of corona.”

Two daughters in care
Beller Jan has two daughters in care who work with the after-effects of corona. “One daughter is an occupational therapist, she helps with the rehabilitation of corona patients. The other is a physiotherapist and helps them regain walking, balance and strength.”

Secretary Petra works in a department with many elderly people. “The sadness and lack of contact was so sad, especially in the first wave. It is also so difficult to refuse concerned family members at the counter.”

Noticeable consequences
In addition to caring for the patients, all those employees also have to deal with colleagues who become ill. Whether a healthcare worker becomes infected, just has a cold or is overworked: the impact is immediately felt because the workload is already great in many places.

The compliments for colleagues therefore also poured in endlessly. As dementia nurse Mieke said: “We were already a strong team, we come out even stronger together.”
