The Municipality of Funchal opens this Monday, June 29th, the applications to the School Manuals Allocation Program for the 1st, 2nd and 3rd Cycles of Basic Education, a commitment of the current Municipal Executive, with a view to free teaching in Funchal.
Since 2017, the Municipality has assigned school manuals to the 1st CEB and since last year the support has been extended to the 9th year, in an investment that has been growing annually, having reached 343 thousand euros in 2019. All applications must be submitted by the respective guardians on the funchalapoia.cm-funchal.pt platform.
As of next week, applications for the 2020/2021 academic year can therefore be made, according to the municipal regulation that provides for the allocation of school manuals to all 1st CEB students attending public or private schools in Funchal, and to students who attend the 2nd and 3rd CEB and are residents of the municipality. The novelty of this year is the fact that applications will be made exclusively online and in a single phase, which runs until July 24 for students from the 5th to the 9th grade and until October 9 for the 1st Cycle. Bearing in mind the public health concerns, and in order to guarantee the safety of everyone and the minimization of risks in face-to-face contact, the delivery of vouchers to 1st CEB students will be made by mail.
President Miguel Silva Gouveia praises this central commitment of the Municipality which “since 2017, has increased the amount available for equality in access to education to be a reality in the municipality. In 2019, we invested 343 thousand euros in support that reached 5739 students, funds that are seen by this Municipal Executive, not as a cost, but as an investment, because we are investing in the education of our children, in inclusion, in equal opportunities, in the higher quality of life of our families and in the development integrated city. “
In the case of the 1st Cycle, the allocation of support is made in the form of a voucher, which can be used in bookstores and stationers in Funchal, thus also supporting local businesses. The value of the voucher varies depending on the educational social action. In the case of the 2nd and 3rd Cycles, the manuals will be provided as a loan, through a scholarship of manuals, and also allocated according to the books that are provided by the educational social action, so that there is no duplication of support.
Bearing in mind the preventive measures imposed by the COVID-19 pandemic, the Municipality established specific dates for those responsible for education to return the 2nd and 3rd CEB manuals used last year. The return of these books will thus be carried out in the building of the Senior University of Funchal, located in the old School of Azinhaga da Nazaré, in São Martinho (Travessa do Dr. Pita), between 9:30 am and 4:00 pm, with specific dates for each year : for the 5th and 6th years of schooling, it will take place from June 29th to July 3rd; for the 7th year, from 7 to 10 July; for the 8th year, from 14 to 17 July; and, finally, for the 9th grade, from the 21st to the 24th of the same month.
