Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia At the end of the big event entitled ‘Wonderlust’, Apple inaugurated its newest flagship, the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max. Both were introduced via live broadcast on Apple’s official YouTube channel on Wednesday (13/9/2023) early morning WIB.

“This is the most Pro iPhone model we have ever made,” said Apple CEO Tim Cook, quoted from the live broadcast.

At first glance, the design language of the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max is still identical to its predecessor. However, the frame (bezel) is made thinner so that the screen-to-body ratio is wider.

However, the screen size is still 6.1 inches for the Pro variant and 6.7 inches for the Pro Max. The screen also still uses the latest OLED type from Apple with a maximum brightness level of 2,000 nits and Ceramic Shield protection.

As leaks suggest, the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max material is made from titanium grade 5 which allows for a lighter weight. Apple claims this material is also more durable than the stainless steel used in the previous series.

Because, the same titanium is used in rovers that explore Mars in space. Although, the consequence is that the color variants on the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max cannot be as ‘flexible’ as the regular iPhone 15 and Plus.

The iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max come in three color models, namely white, blue and black.

Moving on to other features, the iPhone 15 Pro series is now equipped with an ‘Action Button’ like the Apple Watch. This button will recognize pressure to change the desired mode. For example, to launch voice memo, camera, or activate accessibility features.

When using the Action Button, the Dynamic Island feature at the top of the screen will also react. Some of the mainstay features on Dynamic Island include ProMotion, Extreme Dynamic Range, and Always On Display, and StandBy Mode which was previously introduced on iOS 17 at the WWDC event.

Regarding chips, the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max series rely on the newest and fiercest A17 Pro Bionic on the market today. This chip uses the 3nm architecture which was first embedded in the iPhone.

This chip consists of 4 cores that focus on efficiency, and 2 cores that support performance. Overall, it can improve performance up to 10% faster than its predecessor.

The Neural Engine is also 2x faster at carrying out machine learning functions, claimed to be able to perform 35 trillion operations per second.

With a chip like this, the mobile gaming experience will be smoother and without interruption. Apart from that, the visual capabilities and image processing are also more powerful.

Just like the regular iPhone 15 and Plus, the Pro series has also replaced the Lighting port with USB-C. The difference is, in the Pro variant there is a USB Controller which allows the transfer speed to increase 3 times.

Moving on to photography, the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max still rely on a 48MP camera, but with a larger sensor size. The default resolution is 24MP which can capture images at a depth of 24mm, 28mm and 35mm.

The difference from the regular iPhone 15 and Plus lies in its more advanced telephoto capabilities. Thanks to the 12MP secondary camera, it can optically enlarge images up to 5x.

The wide camera also has a slight improvement, namely that it has an anti-reflective feature when used at night. Apart from that, there is also macro support for sharper and more detailed objects.

Video recording also now supports ACES, a global standard for colorization that allows video production to feel professional.

With various improvements in aspects of design, materials, camera and performance, the selling price of the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max is still the same as its predecessor series when it was first released. The iPhone 15 Pro is priced from US$ 999 (Rp. 15.3 million) and the iPhone 15 Pro Max is priced from US$ 1,199 (Rp. 18.4 million).
