Apple’s iPhone 15: USB-C Ports and Transfer Speeds Explained

INDOZONE.ID – Apple is believed to be switching all iPhone 15 models to USB-C ports this year. While USB-C is more efficient than Lightning, the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus may not see any improvement in terms of data transfer speed.

According to Apple leaker Majin Bu, the standard iPhone 15 model will use a USB-C cable with USB 2.0 speeds, which is 480 MBps. This is the same speed as the Lightning and charging will be the same too, capped at 20W.

Although the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus reportedly only support USB 2.0 speeds, the iPhone 15 Pro model is expected to support USB-C transfer speeds which are much faster, given the much different prices.

According to Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, the iPhone 15 Pro models could support at least USB 3.2 or Thunderbolt 3, which could offer transfer speeds of up to 40 Gbps.

This is certainly much faster than the 480 Mbps offered by USB 2.0. As a result, iPhone 15 Pro models will be able to transfer videos and other large files much faster than standard iPhone 15 models.

Additionally, other reports suggest that every iPhone 15 will come with a thicker and more durable USB-C charging cable, which is 50% longer than the Lightning cable included with current iPhone models.

The cable is also rumored to have colors that match the colors of the iPhone 15 series, such as black, white, yellow, blue and orange.

The leak also indicates that the iPhone 15 does not require a Made for iPhone (MFI) certification chip in its USB-C charging cable.

This contradicts previous rumors that Apple will cap or limit data rates for non-MFI-certified cables.
