Apple’s Big Plans for 2024: Updates for iPads, iPhones, Watches, and More

  • Apple is expecting a busy year in 2024, practically every product in the portfolio will experience an update
  • iPads will be the first to arrive, followed by software, iPhones, watches and/or headphones
  • The Vision Pro glasses are a big unknown, but they should also go on sale this year

It is no exaggeration to say that the new year 2024 will be decisive for the American company Apple in many ways. It plans to completely ditch the tablet portfolio, which is not very popular. It is preparing to launch the 10th series of its Apple Watch. And then there is one big holdover from last year – the release of the Vision Pro. Let’s take a nice chronological look at the outlook for 2024.

February and March – new iPads and Vision Pro

January will remain free, but the long-awaited product – Vision Pro smart glasses – should arrive in February. Apple presented them in June 2023 at the very end of the WWDC conference. Within the framework of the newly introduced operating system, visionOS revealed its own idea of a full-fledged product of the so-called mixed reality.

Vision Pro glasses are controlled by hand gestures, you can use them at home or in public, because they allow you to view content in the real world. It shares the most similarities with HoloLens from Microsoft, but they are not focused purely on business, but also on the regular end customer.

Most leaks agree that we will finally hear about the Vision Pro officially again in February 2024. Apple apparently plans to produce the first 400,000 units and offer them to customers with the price tag that it announced last year. It costs 3,499 dollars, i.e. about 95,000 crowns including VAT. If the device heads to the market in February, it will only be in the US for now.

However, the first quarter should also belong to iPads. In March, the long-awaited restructuring of the iPad product line will take place. The first to arrive are the new iPad Pros with the M3 chip and brand new OLED screens. A new pair of diagonals should also be established: 11.1″ for the smaller and 13″ for the larger.

Don’t overlook

Apple will completely rejuvenate the iPad portfolio next year, and a new model will be added

However, it will not be the first or last iPads in 2024. A pair of iPad Airs should also be part of the spring launch. Apple will probably bring new equipment here, but we cannot expect many functions already available in the Pro series (for example, OLED or ProMotion). The iPad Air also settles in two diagonals: 10.9″ for the smaller and 12.9″ for the larger.

June – iOS 18 and all that comes with it

According to many sources, the new iPhone SE will not arrive this year, so spring belongs mainly to iPads, and its end, or rather the beginning of summer, instead counts on the classic WWDC developer conference. The main star of the evening will be the iOS 18 update and especially its AI elements, which have been widely speculated about for several weeks.

Don’t overlook

iOS 18: when will it be released and what new features will it bring?

Apple, as the last big tech giant, does not take much into account the trend of artificial generative intelligence, but this should change with iOS 18. The plan is said to be to improve Siri properly, build its own language model into the system and connect it with native applications. We took a closer look at this topic in a separate article about expected news in iOS 18.

In addition to iOS 18, of course, a number of other updates will also arrive, whether it is macOS 15, watchOS 11, tvOS 18, and apparently also visionOS 2. Whether all mentioned systems will contain a spark of artificial generative intelligence like iOS 18, that remains to be seen.

September – iPhone 16, tenth Apple Watch and new AirPods

The school month of September will, as always, belong to the most important hardware product with the Apple logo – the iPhone. The plan is to launch the iPhone 16, 16 Plus, as well as a pair of more powerful iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max models. A lot has been said about the new iPhones since last September – so only the main news.

The basic iPhone 16 (Plus) duo is expected to use a 3nm chip, it will probably be a slightly modified version of the A17 Pro chipset. A big change will probably be the deployment of an action button and a hardware camera trigger. As surprising as it may sound in relation to Apple, the best leak hunters agree on this.

Don’t overlook

Everything we know about iPhone 16: invisible Face ID, proper periscope and bigger display (revived)

The iPhone 16 Pro (Max) will also get a hardware camera trigger, but the innovations in the camera will be much more important. There is speculation about the deployment of a 48MP wide-angle camera, as well as an improvement in the telephoto lens of the smaller of the phones. Partly because of this, the diagonal will increase to 6.3″ for the smaller and 6.9″ for the Pro Max model. We shouldn’t forget Wi-Fi 7 or the new A18 Pro chipset.

Smart watches will probably be more important in 2024 than ever before. The number series of the Apple Watch Series just reached ten this year. The last time the iPhone made it to the top ten, big things were happening. Most often, when the Apple Watch 10 (or Apple Watch X) is mentioned, they talk about a change in design, an enlarged display, and also a new blood pressure measurement function. Alongside these Apple Watches, the new Ultra 3 should also arrive.

Apple doesn’t seem to forget headphones either. The new fourth generation of the classic AirPods is to be had. Some leaks even mention that there will be two versions: one with ANC and the other, cheaper, without ANC. New AirPods Pro are not planned, however, Apple is to revitalize its AirPods Max headset, specifically with a USB-C port.

Autumn – new computers?

As for Macs in 2024, it’s very open. The most talked about is the new Mac mini, which should arrive this year in a variant with M3 and M3 Pro. But only in the fall. Some sources also indicate the launch of new MacBook Airs with the M3 chipset, but it is not clear whether this will happen in the first half of the year or at the end.

Don’t overlook

Improvements to the Mac Studio and Mac Pro computers are also expected by the end of the year, although the successor M3 Ultra chipset has not yet been introduced. The biggest question mark then hangs over the launch of the MacBook Pros, which were last improved in October 2023 and received the new M3 chipset. A new update of flagship laptops would mean that Apple will also show new M4 series chips this year.
