ZONABANTEN.com – Apple plans to partner with Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. for the production of its own 5G modem for the iPhone.
Apple plans to use TSMC’s 4nm process node, which is not yet used for any commercial products.
Modem appears to be being designed and tested at 5nm before moving into mass production in 2023 at 4nm.
Switch Apple to a modem of its own design is expected to occur in 2023, TSMC is a natural manufacturing partner.

Qualcomm, which is a dominant player in the industry and manufactures modem components for the entire iPhone 13 lineup.
Yang recently said that they expect just 20 percent of iPhone modem orders within two years.
Apple bought Intel’s 5G modem division in 2019, marking its eventual transition. Earlier that year Qualcomm and Apple agreed to end a costly modem technology patent dispute.
With Qualcomm receiving more than 4 billion dollars as part of the settlement.
