As he struggled to stay conscious, Abel heard the tactile feedback from the Apple Watch 8 and heard a voice asking him if he was there, saying, “Hi. Are you there?”
“I wonder how long it would take me to ask for help without this watch,” Abel told ABC News.
Abel had just bought an Apple Watch 8 at Best Buy just a week before the accident.
Abel was hospitalized and reportedly had to wear prescription lenses due to vision problems, but otherwise recovered.
Abel said that when he contacted Apple via email to thank him for saving his life, Tim Cook responded.
