Apple TV app on LG TVs now supports Dolby Atmos

An update for the Apple TV application on LG TVs is now available that adds support for Dolby Atmos. In addition, Atmos is now also supported when you play content via Apple AirPlay 2, so when you stream from another device in your local network.

Dolby Atmos for Apple TV app on LG TVs

The Apple TV app has been available for LG TVs since February 2020. And since then, users have been complaining about the lack of support for Dolby Atmos. In response, both companies promised that this support would be available later and will be released through an update. Now the moment is finally there. If you download version 1.0.22 from the Apple TV app on supported LG TVs with webOS, you can now view your content with support for Atmos. The companies thus officially fulfill their promise.

Dolby Atmos is also available when you stream content via Apple AirPlay 2. That means that when you send an Atmos movie from your iPhone or iPad to the TV via AirPlay 2, your movies will be played in Atmos and 4K Dolby Vision. The Apple TV app is also available on Samsung’s Tizen televisions, as well as a number of Roku and Fire TV devices, but it is not yet clear whether Atmos will be activated on that with the most recent update. Otherwise, you can still get an Apple TV media player.
