Apple to Launch iPhone SE 4 with Custom 5G Modem in 2025, Says Analyst

Jakarta

Apple reportedly will launch iPhone SE 4 in 2025. The ‘cheap’ iPhone is rumored to be back with a custom 5G modem designed by Apple.

This news comes from analyst Jeff Pu of Haitong International Securities. In a memo to investors, Pu said the 5G modem will be manufactured by Apple partner TSMC.

The existence of the iPhone SE 4 itself is still a mystery. In January 2023, analyst Ming-Chi Kuo said Apple was canceling the iPhone SE 4 due to technical issues, specifically because of its custom 5G modem.

But in February 2023, Kuo said Apple would resume development on the iPhone SE 4. Kuo said the iPhone SE 4 will have a similar design to the iPhone 14, not the previously rumored iPhone XR.

Kuo said iPhone SE 4 will use Apple’s 5G modem built using a 4nm fabrication. The modem will only support sub-6GHz networks, not the faster mmWave.

Kuo believes mass production of the iPhone SE 4 will begin in the first half of 2024. However, Pu denies this claim and believes the launch of the iPhone SE 4 will be pushed back to 2025, as quoted by MacRumors, Thursday (13/4/2023).

Apple last launched the iPhone SE in 2022. The third-generation iPhone SE is equipped with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon X57 modem that supports sub-6GHz 5G.

iPhone SE 3 comes with a 4.7 inch screen and is equipped with a Home button and Touch ID. It looks like the iPhone SE 3 will be the last iPhone to have a Home button because iPhone SE 4 predicted to have the same design as the iPhone 14.
