Apple to Address Apple Watch Battery Drain Issue in Upcoming watchOS Update

Apple said in an internal memo shared with Apple Authorized Service Providers today that it is preparing to fix an issue where Apple Watch battery drains too quickly after updating to watchOS 10.1.

Foreign media MacRumors found in a memo obtained from multiple sources that Apple stated that the power consumption issue will be resolved in an “upcoming” watchOS update. The memo didn’t provide any other details, so it’s unclear what the root cause of the issue is, how many users are affected, and whether all Apple Watch models are affected.

Since the release of watchOS 10.1 in late October, users on the MacRumors forum, Apple Community, Reddit, and 2.

Customer Martin Cooper said on X that WatchOS 10.1 is draining the battery on my Apple Watch. In less than 60 minutes, the battery dropped from 100% to 50%.

The developer of Apple iOS 17.1 released a note saying that the update fixes the problem that “increased power consumption may occur” when an Apple Watch running watchOS 10.1 is paired with an iPhone running iOS 17. However, apparently the battery consumption problem of Apple Watch has not been completely resolved, so WatchOS needs to be updated.
