Apple smartwatch models banned in US over patent dispute with Masimo: Reuters

A judge in Washington on Wednesday barred US technology company Apple from selling two flagship smartwatch models in the United States over a patent dispute between Apple and Masimo. It was written by Reuters on Thursday, according to which the legal battle could last up to a year. Apple therefore decided to disable the controversial feature to comply with the ban and keep the watch on sale.

Masimo, which specializes in health technology, accuses Apple of luring its employees, stealing its technology for measuring blood oxygen levels and incorporating it into its watches.

Because of the dispute, at the end of last year, Apple had to briefly suspend the sale of the Series 9 and Ultra 2 watches, but later the American court allowed it again. Now the sales ban was supposed to apply again, but Apple will avoid it by selling the watch from Thursday morning without the app allowing blood oxygen level measurement to be available.

Although Apple does not disclose how many smartwatches it sells annually, according to the AP agency, analysts estimate that this product will bring the company around $18 billion (410 billion CZK) in annual revenue.
