Apple faces bigger fines in the Netherlands over App Store

Apple has been stringing together fines in the Netherlands, at 5 million million each week for 9 weeks now. A 10th fine will fall in a few days, which will make 50 million euros in total.

Fines continue for Apple

The Netherlands originally announced that the maximum amount would be 50 million euros because Apple is not complying with an order that requires it to allow third-party payments in dating apps on the Internet. App Store. But the European country is now ready to hit harder with even bigger fines.

Apple this week submitted a new proposal to the ACM, the Dutch regulator, in an attempt to stop the sanction. The offer is not entirely in accordance with its order, an official with the body told Reuters. Now the ACM is considering fines with a higher amount for Apple to actually react.

What is the problem ? ACM wants Apple to allow third-party payments in dating apps on the App Store in the Netherlands. This is a way to offer more choices to developers and thus not pay the 30% commission. Apple has made a first proposal, but this does not satisfy the ACM at all. There is talk of allowing third-party payments, but still taking 27% commission. Additionally, Apple wants developers to offer a separate version of their dating apps. Also, developers must submit their earnings each month for the 27% commission to apply.

This week, Apple made another proposal to the regulator. The details are not known, but they obviously do not satisfy the organization since other higher fines are in the pipeline.
