App to contact the hospital with corona symptoms expands | NOW

The Luscii app, with which people can pass on their symptoms about the coronavirus to a hospital, is expanding outside Amsterdam. The app is also available from Thursday in the regions of Utrecht and Nijmegen. Assen follows Friday.

People can join Luscii Sign Up and then report symptoms through the app that may indicate an infection with the COVID-19 virus. Medical personnel from a hospital in the region assess the situation and send a message back via the app. Patients can also be called if there is reason to do so.

People from the Amsterdam, Amstelveen, Zaanstad and Almere region can come into contact with the Onze Lieve Vrouwe Gasthuis (OLVG) via the app. In the province of Utrecht Luscii works with the University Medical Center Utrecht (UMC Utrecht) and in the Nijmegen region with the Canisius Wilhelmina Hospital (CWZ).

On Friday, Wilhelmina Hospital Assen (WZA) will announce from which postal code areas people can contact the hospital via Luscii. The app is expected to become available in more regions in the coming period, Daan Dohmen of Luscii told NU.nl.

An exception to this is the province of Noord-Brabant, where the coronavirus causes the most victims in the Netherlands. According to Dohmen, the hospitals in Brabant are currently prioritizing their care for patients, but he does not exclude that the app will also become available there at a later time.

The coronavirus in short

  • The coronavirus mainly spreads from person to person via sneezing and cough drops. The chance of becoming infected through surfaces such as door handles is small. This chance decreases if you wash your hands often.
  • You can considerably reduce the chance of spreading by keeping at least 1.5 meters away from others.
  • An infected person infects two to three others on average. Precautions are necessary to contain this.
  • The vast majority of patients have mild (flu-like) complaints.
  • Almost all deaths involve the elderly or other vulnerable persons, such as heart, lung or diabetes patients. If everyone complies with the measures, this reduces their risks.
