Anxiety, as it comes, goes: Homero Ontiveros

“It was my way of hugging something to keep me afloat,” says the singer-songwriter Homer Ontiveros talking about the songs he wrote during the lockdown, which were intended to help motivate their followers to get ahead.

“We were out of work, we couldn’t play live anymore and we couldn’t tour. That can produce anxiety to anyone, so I started to make songs in a way that could give way to all that roller coaster of feelings that he is experiencing ”, the musician comments to EL UNIVERSAL.

The song that talks about the theme of the anxiety he went through is called “Breathe” and is on an EP called “Confinaciones”, which is now available on all digital platforms.

“This song has to do with episodes of anxiety that I had, but it is not an album that comes in a gloomy tone, but on the contrary, what it is about is to encourage, and I really liked a phrase, regarding the episodes of anxiety that says ‘I must breathe, because as it comes, it goes’ and this is what happens with anxiety, you never know when an attack comes, which suddenly goes away as well as it takes and for that you have to breathe “.

“I made those songs to hug them and hence they can work for other people, to be able to do this with my music I like a lot and I appreciate it, because it is to use it for something beyond entertainment, to give another type of message”, Explain.

Pros and cons of being a soloist, according to Homero Ontiveros

On the other hand, Ontiveros points out that it is thanks to his solo project that he also has the freedom to write these very personal and intimate songs.

“As a soloist I am the only one who is present and that allows me a freedom, which I do not mean that with Inspector I do not have it but it is different, for example I made a song that talks about the episodes of anxiety that we have had to to go through confinement and that is something very personal, we cannot share an episode of anxiety with other members of a band, but I can do it alone ”, he details.

But he also deepens that having an alternative project has not been easy at all, but has implied a great challenge, which he is grateful for because he has learned a lot and that motivates him to continue creating new things.

“It does not matter that I have composed ‘Amargo adiós’ or some other Inspector icons or songs that I would dare to say are part of the popular Mexican songbook, it does not matter that I have composed them, few people know that it was me, because the reflectors are focused on other characters and that’s fine, that’s how a band works, the only thing that happens is that now that I want to go to the front with my project, it is as if I started from scratch as a reality I have 25 years in the music industry and composing and producing songs.

“I had never put myself in the spotlight to say that I am Homer and I have done this and it is still difficult, but at the same time I also appreciate having to start this way because nobody is giving me anything, I am working my own path and I am learning many things ”, he deepens.

About Tik Tok and the new generations

Among those challenges has been to enter social networks and the new way of promoting music, such as making videos on Tik Tok, where he confesses that he is not good at making them because he still does not understand him, but tries to adapt to new trends .

“It is not a complaint, it is simply not easy and it also seems, speaking of Mexico, that here the boom in musical novelties has to be between one age and the other, that is, it seems that at 44 years old I am already old for the music industry and I say, ‘old hills’, it is like having to compete now that there is freedom of digital platforms, it is to compete with this entire market of kids that brings another music market, and that their main means of diffusion is Tik Tok and I do not understand it, I am trying to make them but that is adaptation and that makes it more complicated and full of learning ”, abounds.

For now, the singer will perform next Friday, July 9 at 7:30 p.m. at the Weaver’s Forum, where for the first time he will be able to get on stage again after the pandemic, where he hopes to share his musical successes as soloist.

“This return, I am super excited to play my music live, because a year and a half ago we had prepared a presentation, it was not the same as now, that is, during confinement it gave me the opportunity to do some live broadcasts through my networks social and to be able to talk with people.

“This has made it possible for me to create a bond that makes me safer to get on stage and sing my own songs, which are also compositions that move me a lot, and sharing it with people seems to me to be very important and the most important thing. of everything, that we can continue with our profession, because being a musician is that ”, he comments.
