Anticipation for Grand Theft Auto 6 Reaches Fever Pitch: Updates, Leaks, and Speculation

Grand Theft Auto 6 is one of the most anticipated games in history and fans are literally destroying themselves with the hype. Official confirmation of the game appeared in early 2022. Over the past year, Rockstar Games has been making passing mentions of it and noting that Red Dead Online will stop receiving new major updates in order to focus resources on the development of GTA 6. Following this, a large leak occurred, as a result of which more than an hour of video footage from the game appeared online. It was a rare look at the development of a massive game, revealing that we’ll be getting two playable main characters, a return to Vice City, and more.

Fans are expecting the game to be announced as early as this month, but there has been no word from Rockstar Games about anything like that. However, all these little things keep popping up and fans convince themselves that it means something. It’s likely that most of them don’t mean anything at all, but still… we’ll continue to speculate until Rockstar stops the torment.

The final tidbit was that Metacritic, a site known for its ratings, page appeared for Grand Theft Auto VI. Many took this as a sign that Metacritic was preparing a trailer or some other news. However, if we’re being completely honest, Metacritic probably doesn’t have a clue. This is not a site that really keeps track of such things. Rockstar Games is also keeping everything under wraps, and given that many have been waiting for this announcement for years, it’s likely that few outside of the company’s marketing team will hear about it ahead of time.

Will GTA 6 be announced this year? No one knows. Take-Two Interactive is predicting a sharp jump in revenue from next spring to spring 2025, so a release at that time would make sense. The company will hold an earnings call in early November, so perhaps we’ll learn more at that time.
