Anti-Covid-19 vaccination intensified in Costa Rican minors

The director of the CCSS Health Services Network -in charge of public health-, Eduardo Cambronero, indicated that the technical teams of the 105 areas of the entity visit schools and colleges in their communities to apply pediatric vaccines against Covid -19.

Also, he continued, to complete vaccination schedules for adolescents and teachers, and stressed that the vaccines used in the country are safe and effective, reduce complications caused by the disease, hospitalization and the risk of death.

He specified that the Ministry of Public Education (MEP) has always opened the doors for teams to take vaccines to schools, a strategy that, he explained, began in March and is reinforced in these weeks.

For his part, the director of Management and Regional Development of the MEP, Ricardo Riveros, pointed out that as part of the coordination and support actions for the process, his portfolio issued a circular that establishes collaboration with the CCSS and the Ministry of Health to contribute with vaccination.

He stressed that they urge parents to vaccinate their children and educational centers to provide facilities for this purpose.

The director of the National Children’s Hospital, Olga Arguedas, pointed out that the CCSS makes great efforts to bring vaccines to educational centers.

Avoid, he maintained, that your children join the 718 children that we have already had hospitalized for Covid-19, of which 129 were in the Intensive Care Unit. Getting vaccinated is always the best alternative, insisted Arguedas.

In addition to the 178 thousand 321 minors between five and 11 years old that remain to start the scheme, the data from the Integrated Vaccination System (SIVA) show that in the group of 12 to 17 years old, 25 thousand 918 adolescents are pending to start injecting themselves, 37 thousand 463 are missing the second dose, and 188 thousand the third.

The CCSS recalled that the scheme consists of two portions, the second applied 21 days after the first.

He explained that to date 602 thousand 925 injections have been applied, of these 347 thousand 170 correspond to first and 255 thousand 755 to second.

Meanwhile, he said, the protection scheme for those over 12 years of age is three doses, the second 21 days after the first and the third four months after the second.
