Anthony Ginting managed to qualify for the semifinals of the Indonesia Masters 2024 after defeating Loh Kean Yew with a score of 21-17, 21-19 at Istora Gelora Bung Karno, Friday (26/1).
Ginting started the match with a 3-0 lead. Ginting then took the lead up to 10-6. Loh Kean Yew won three points in a row but Ginting was able to lead 11-10 in the first game interval.
After the interval, Ginting lost his rhythm. Loh Kean Yew was able to equalize at 12-12 and then went ahead 15-13.
Ginting then responded. He managed to win five points in a row and regained the lead at 18-15.
The cross smash released by Ginting after a long rally resulted in points. Loh Kean Yew had thrown himself down to reach the shuttlecock but he still failed to do so.
Ginting then took game point at 20-16. After failing at the first opportunity, Ginting finally closed the first game with a 21-17 win.
In the second game, Ginting started the match with a 4-1 lead. Even though after that Loh Kean Yew was able to equalize, Ginting was able to pull away again at 8-5. Ginting finally led 11-6 at the interval.
The significant difference in points in that interval then eroded quickly. Loh Kean Yew won three points in a row and closed at 9-11. He continued to score point after point so he could equalize the score at 13-13.
Loh Kean Yew was finally able to take the lead 14-13. This happened after Ginting’s shot in a fierce rally hit the net.
Tight scoring ensued after that. Ginting and Loh Kean Yew took turns winning each other. Loh Kean Yew’s netting made Ginting fall and the score was level at 16-16.
Ginting had a two-point lead after winning two points in a row but Loh Kean Yew was able to immediately equalize the score at 18-18.
Ginting regained the lead 19-18 after Ginting’s consecutive smashes caused Loh Kean Yew to fall down.
Ginting’s shot went wide to make the score equal at 19-19. Ginting then reached match point first after Loh Kean Yew failed to recover his thin net.
Ginting immediately finished Loh Kean Yew’s resistance at the first opportunity. After being under pressure, Ginting was able to put pressure back on. Successive attacks finally penetrated Loh Kean Yew’s defense.
