Another wildfire in Drenthe, now near Hoogeveen | NOW

Another fire broke out in the province of Drenthe on Monday afternoon. The fire raged near Elim, near Hoogeveen, and has since been extinguished. On Sunday a piece of forest near Alteveer burned down.

In an area of 150 by 150 meters, several small fires broke out on Monday afternoon. Because the fire brigade was unable to reach the forest parcel, a very large fire was initially assumed. A drone team was then deployed to map the seat of the fire, after which the fire brigade was able to extinguish. The fire was under control at around 8.30 pm.

Several fire brigades from the area were present to extinguish the fire. There was also a special team to measure whether hazardous substances were released during the fire.

It is the third time in a short time that a wildfire has broken out in Drenthe. On Sunday afternoon, part of the Mensingebos near Alteveer in Drenthe was ablaze. It was then a combination between a forest and a heather fire. The fire brigade had this fire under control within two hours.

Earlier in the day there was a fire in a nature reserve near Klazienaveen-Noord. The causes of the fires are not yet known, including whether there is a connection. However, a spokesperson for the fire brigade notes that nature is becoming drier and drier and that wildfires are therefore occurring quickly. He therefore calls on people who go into nature to be extra careful not to cause fires.
