Another loss for the BJK Cup in Prague. This year’s sensational finalist of the US Open will not take part either

The Billie Jean King Cup in Prague receives one shot after another. World number one Ashleigh Bartyová or Czechs Karolína Plíšková and Petra Kvitová have already apologized for it. Now the finalist of this year’s US Open, Leylah Fernandez, has come with a nice news for Czech fans. The 19-year-old tennis player, who was eliminated in the round of 16 of the tournament in Indian Wells on Tuesday, apologized from the Canadian national team, which will face matches with France and Russia in the group at the beginning of November.

Fernandez has been experiencing a turning point so far. In March, she won her first WTA career title in Monterrey, and surprised the tennis world at the New York Grand Slam. She won, among other things, the scalps of champions Naomi Osaka, Angelique Kerber and world number two Aryna Sabalenkova, before she lost to the British Emma Raducanu in a duel of two unexpected finalists.

After being eliminated in Indian Wells, Fernandez admitted that she is already tired after a long season and does not yet know where and whether she will play this year. “It has always been an honor to be able to represent. Canada has given me and my family so many opportunities and in recent weeks the favor of Canadian fans has meant a lot to me,” the tennis player said in an official statement.

In the Canadian Union nomination, Fernandez will be replaced by Carol Zha. She will join Rebecca Marina, Gabriela Dabrowska and Francoise Abanda in the team.
