Another interruption in the Amsterdam metro, all carriages are at a standstill | NOW

Due to a malfunction in the Municipal Transport Company (GVB) security system, all Amsterdam metros will be shut down on Monday. The outage began in the middle of rush hour, around 5pm.

Earlier this year, the subways were down for several days in a row due to a similar malfunction.

The GVB says it hopes the subways can resume running Monday night. “We’ve probably found the cause of the outage and are conducting tests. We can’t say when the subways will be back on schedule.”

According to a spokesperson for GVB, there are no signs of travelers failing to get off at the station. Travelers write on social media that the subways have made emergency stops, but the transport company knows nothing about this.

Furthermore, there are no known reports of dangerous situations. According to the GVB, all subways could continue to a subway station, where everyone could get off and transfer to other means of transport.

Normally running buses and trams in Amsterdam are now overcrowded due to the interruption. The GVB says it will not distribute extra buses yet. “It’s not like that one-two-three.”
