Violence escalated in Berlin on New Year’s Eve.
Even after the violent outbursts of violence on New Year’s Eve, the emergency services in Berlin don’t seem to be able to rest. As the “Image» reported that there was another firecracker attack on an ambulance in the German capital on Monday night. The victim of the attack was the so-called “Stroke-Einsatzmobil” (Stemo), a special ambulance used for the treatment of stroke patients.
Violent attacks on police officers and emergency services in Berlin earlier this year caused shock in and around Germany. Hundreds of perpetrators were out for a riot and attacked emergency services with flares, firecrackers and bottles.
As the newspaper reports, Stemo’s rescuers went to the Berlin district of Hellersdorf at around 9 pm on Sunday evening due to a stroke. As soon as we arrived, a firecracker suddenly went off from the fourth floor of the building. This hit the roof of the 1.5 million expensive ambulance and then exploded there. The paramedics immediately called the carabinieri, who showed up on the spot shortly after.
The forces are being attacked again and again
However, the attacker didn’t stop at just one attack. As he continues to write the newspaper, minutes later he allegedly dropped three more explosive devices. No one was hit: firecrackers exploded between cars.
Despite the attacks, the deployed rescuers were able to successfully complete their mission. The police attempt to confront the perpetrator was unsuccessful. In vain they rang and knocked on the door of Böller’s alleged attacker. The police have now launched an investigation into the case.
As Benjamin Jendro, a spokesman for the Berlin police union Pil, told the newspaper, the latest incident shows that attacks of this kind are not a “Neukölln specialty on New Year’s Eve”. Throughout the year there are repeated acts of violence in which emergency services are attacked with stones, bottles, pyrotechnics or other weapons.
The investigation into the New Year’s Eve riot in Berlin is now underway. And the number of arrests has been revised downwards. At first there was talk of 145 people, now there are 38 people. Most of them are German, according to the “Tagesspiegel”. (dzc)
